Kinesiology PhD Program

Overview

The mission of the PhD program in Kinesiology at the University of Southern Mississippi is to train students to become research scientists and scholars in the broad field of Kinesiology.  This integrative, mentor-guided degree program has four objectives:

  1. Train students in specific areas of expertise
  2. Provide quantitative and qualitative research training in the student's content area
  3. Develop diverse, independent, and service-minded researchers
  4. Engage in meaningful opportunities for application and dissemination of research

Admission Requirements

In addition to Å·²©ÓéÀÖ³Ç's admission requirements, applicants must also submit the following documents:

  1. Statement of Purpose - Applicants should pay particular attention to the instructions for writing the personal statement found in the online application.
  2. CV/Resume
  3. Writing Sample - This sample should be an example of your best original writing; it may be be a published paper or one submitted for a class assignment.
  4. Three Letters of Recommendation

Curriculum Overview

Students will be required to complete 54 hours to degree, which will include courses in research tools, grant writing, and graduate seminars occurring on a rotating basis, reflecting trends in doctoral education. Uniquely, our program will require students to complete advisor-driven research hours spent directly in the lab of their faculty advisor.
